About Us

Every child has the right to ENJOY their childhood, and this is why The Bristol Under Privileged Children’s Charity was created in the 1970’s Our aim is to raise as much money as possible for as long as possible to put back into and enrich the lives of children in a less fortunate position than ourselves. Whatever their need, disability or situation we want to help improve their lives. The Bristol Under Privileged Children’s Charity has no share capital and no paid officials so every last penny raised by the charity and its supporters is spent helping Bristol children who reside within a twenty-five mile radius of the city centre. Funds are raised through donations, functions and subscriptions and are then applied to grants, items, services or facilities that help to reduce the need, hardship or distress of these children.

My association with the City of Bristol goes back very many years as my first post after my marriage in the early 1960s was on the staff of the then Bishop of Bristol, Oliver Tompkins. Our three daughters were all born in Southmead Hospital and so are true Bristolians. I have long known of the work of the Bristol UPCC through my good friend Raymond Wong and have been honoured to be a Patron since 2003. One of the greatest things that anyone can do is to give children good memories that will last across a lifetime and the BUPCC does just that. There are far too many children who suffer considerable depravation across the British Isles and Bristol is no exception and I am proud to be associated with the organisation and would also like to thank so many people from across the city who over the years have given us support to make the lives of many children fuller and richer.

I am always amazed at the generosity of Bristol people when we request money to help the under privileged children of Bristol and I am sad that they rarely see where this money goes and the good that it does. People don’t realise that many children are born to dysfunctional parents and the money we collect and distribute can ease their difficult life to become functioning members of our society. Social Services funded by Bristol CIty Council are able to help, but with these services being cut our assistance is even more vital.
